Here in 1732 Jean Pierre Roma founded a base for control of the Gulf fisheries and for trade with France, Quebec, and the West Indies. His establishment was destroyed after the fall of Louisbourg in 1745.

Historic Island sandstone landmark houses PEI's oldest museum, with an 18th-century militia coat, an antique high chair that converts to a rocker, early 1900s medical equipment, and a shipbuilding display. Open June 3-Sept 27, Mon-Sat, 9 am-5 pm (hours subject to change). $3 adults, children under 12 free, $45 per motor coach. Tax included. Free school tours.
