Restaurant Scene
Charlottetown has a number of fine restaurants, and is a great place for
seafood lovers to dine out. It even has McDonald's serving Lobster Burgers!
Shellfish, especially the local Malpeque oysters are in abundance over the
summer months, a number of community halls offer special lobster dinners.
Restaurants in the province run the gamut from rustic to "diner" to haute
decor, with the most choices in Charlottetown and along the north shore. There
are a number of fine Acadian restaurants in the Mont-Carmel area west of Summerside.
If you are touring the province, wether on bike or by car, time your trips into towns for the mealtimes.
Victoria Row
For cozy restaurants in heritage buildings, with streetside patios, head along
Richmond St, between Queen & Great George. Not only can you dine on cuisine
ranging from Greek to seafood,you can relax in a cafe or shop the many craft shops.
Down the Hill
Toward the waterfront are a couple of great restaurants, including Off Broadway
for seafood, Claddagh Room for Irish food, and Sirenella for Italian food. This
area also has a number of pubs, including the 42nd St Lounge, The Olde Dublin
Pub and The Merchantman.
Along the Waterfront
This area has more than just seafood, but seafood it does have! Establishments
include Peake's Quay, Lobster-on-the-Wharf, and the Lucy Maud Dining Room (for
the Culinary institute of Canada). There are some interesting dining rooms
that are part of older established hotels: Inn Restaurants (Inn on the Hill),
Griffon Room (Dundee Arms), Selkirk (Prince Edward Hotel), the Carvery,
(Charlottetown Hotel).
